"History of Philosophy: Just Say No!" So expressed himself Gil Harman, at Princeton in the late 1980s. Do philosophers today still think the same? And for what reasons? In this talk, I engage with the multifaced debate on the topic that continues today, examining positions and arguments. I conclude with a positive proposal for why studying and researching ancient philosophy today can make us better philosophers if our concerns are with today's world, but also better scholars if our interests lie with historical ideas. "History of Philosophy: Yes, please!"
(Anna Marmodoro)

The public evening lecture by Professor Anna Marmodoro is part of the Philosophical Masterclass, which is being offered for the ninth time in collaboration between the Catholic Academy in Bavaria and the Munich School of Philosophy.
