The history of temple buildings in the Levant

Archaeological excavations show how the first temples developed and eventually found the form that the Temple of Jerusalem was based on. However, only the temple platform from the time of King Herod the Great has survived. We can only reconstruct what the building itself looked like by means of its ancient descriptions.
