Four out of five Germans reject genetic engineering in agriculture. At the same time, representative surveys show that a large majority knows hardly anything about new methods such as genome editing.
The lecture will first present the methods used in plant breeding, their potential and examples of their application. At the same time, we will ask where the genetic improvement of our crops reaches its limits and what critical questions we have to face in the area of tension between increasing productivity and sustainability. An exciting and controversially discussed topic that we will deal with this evening.
